How it works
You log in, we block AI music.
01
Connect your Spotify
Login to your Spotify securely through RealSongCheck. We check your library against our global blocklist of AI songs and artists, and block them from your streaming experience.
02
We look out for you 24/7
RealSongCheck's filtering system attaches to your Spotify 24/7. If you save or like an AI song, we remove it from your library immediately. It works whether you're on the web player, desktop app, or your phone. Spotify Premium users also get auto-skip, so flagged tracks never even start playing.
03
We tell you everything.
Every song we remove and flag as AI is logged in your history, which you can view any time. We tell you the reasons behind each song's removal, and you can personally restore or file an appeal for us to remove a song from our blocklist, if you believe it's human-made and we made a mistake. (We make those sometimes!)
🎵
Liked songs and your playlists
RealSongCheck cleans your liked songs and any playlists you own. Playlists made by other people get flagged. You can unfollow them if you'd rather not keep them.
Auto-skip, for Spotify Premium accounts
The abilities of Spotify Premium accounts allow us to auto-skip any songs flagged as AI the moment you play them. This runs automatically as soon as you connect, 24/7. No setting to find, no toggle to switch. Discover new music with a clear head again.
Requires Spotify Premium.
👤
Every user improves the blocklist (yes, you!)
Every AI-flagged song streamed or saved by a RealSongCheck user is added to everyone's global blocklist. Everyone helps everyone.
You stay in control
You will always have the ability to restore songs, report undetected AI songs, and appeal false positives. Disconnect RealSongCheck at any time and we wipe all your data immediately.
The signup figure shown above reflects total account registrations since launch and does not represent current active user numbers, which may be lower. RealSongCheck is provided on an as-is basis with no guarantees of detection accuracy, uptime, or fitness for any particular purpose. AI detection is probabilistic. False positives can and do occur; no track is permanently removed without your confirmation, and all actions can be reviewed and reversed in My History. RealSongCheck is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way connected to Spotify AB. Use of this service remains subject to Spotify's own terms of service. RealSongCheck accepts no liability for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from use of this service, including but not limited to incorrect track removals or service unavailability. Report an AI song

Have you stumbled upon an AI track we missed? Report it here. Every report is checked by a real human using an audio analysis system. We aim to review and update you within 48 hours.

1,204
community reports this month
Please fill out your reasonings in as much detail as possible. The more we have, the more accurate we can be.
Helpful signals: bulk release patterns, AI distributor names, no artist presence anywhere outside Spotify, sequential track numbering. The more specific you are, the faster we can verify.
Report received
We'll check it against our detection signals. We aim to review within 48 hours. If it's confirmed AI-generated, it gets added to our detection database and won't appear in any user's library again.

Challenge a removal

Have we accidentally flagged a real song as AI? You can appeal false positives here. Every appeal gets read by a human. We update our database when we get it wrong.

Warning: appeals take time, and we can't promise reinstatement. Please provide as much evidence of human authorship and/or reasonable doubt as you can. If we agree, we whitelist the track, and it won't be flagged again.
Things that actually help: social media where a real person is clearly present, interviews in publications, an official site with real contact details, a music video, Bandcamp or SoundCloud with a genuine history, and public goodwill.

Things that won't cut it: streaming links, playlist appearances, or live performances. AI-generated music can be performed live, so that proves nothing about who made it.
Got it, we'll look into it
We'll read what you sent and get back to you within a few days. We review every appeal ourselves.

If the evidence checks out, the track is added to our verified whitelist and won't be flagged again.

Why RealSongCheck exists

Around 2023, AI-generated tracks began flooding people's algorithmic playlists. Tracks thoughtlessly churned out by AI farming tools have been gaming streaming recommendation systems and damaging artistic concentration that could be mobilizing around human music.

But the problem is bigger than artistic integrity. Every stream on an AI-generated track hoards royalties away from working musicians. Platforms have done some housekeeping, but the farms move faster than any moderation team can manage.

RealSongCheck is a way for us to collectively fight back. Connect your Spotify once, and our extension will clear AI from your Spotify to the best of our ability. Our mission is to let people discover music again with a clear conscience. You don't need to keep this site open. It runs in the background whenever you start playing music on Spotify.

What we look for

We cannot guarantee 100% accuracy in our detection systems, but our goal is to continuously improve our ability to identify AI-generated tracks. Our current systems compile factors about each song and rate them based on their likelihood of being AI, which we relay back to you in your history tab.

Known AI music distributors and labels on our internal blocklist Guaranteed block
Artist names with AI-pattern suffixes (.ai, known bot naming formats) High risk
Artists releasing hundreds of tracks within a matter of days High risk
Artists with zero followers and no presence on any platform outside of streaming Low risk
Track names following content-farm patterns: sequential numbering, ultra-generic descriptors Low risk
Tracks with a popularity score of zero despite appearing in algorithmic playlists Low risk
Community-reported artists: artists flagged by multiple RealSongCheck users get reviewed internally and added to the detection system Guaranteed block

You are informed of the AI likelihood of each track, and given the choice of which songs to remove. If you click the Remove all button, all songs we have flagged as AI are removed from your library. We sometimes make mistakes, so the is available to you at any time.

Real-time audio analysis

RealSongCheck in its current form works almost entirely from context signals: metadata, distributor patterns, release behaviour, and community reports. We do not currently do real-time audio analysis on individual tracks. Let us explain:

In theory, AI-generated songs are detectable by the composition of their audio. There are artifacts and patterns baked in by generative audio tools that a trained classifier can pick up on. In practice, doing this requires access to the raw audio file and a trained classifier running on a server. That's technically possible but expensive. If RealSongCheck grows, real-time audio analysis is the next leap. It would massively boost our accuracy and catch AI music that slips through with initially convincing metadata. But for now, the context-signal approach catches the vast majority of AI farm content, because those operations have very consistent metadata patterns.

What we won't do

We don't add tracks, we only remove them with your consent to our detection system's judgement by connecting your Spotify. We don't sell your data. We don't share anything beyond what the Spotify API requires to function. We are a nonprofit organization with no ads and no investors. If RealSongCheck has been useful to you, helps insulate our servers and invest in better detection systems.

Pre-AI cutoff year
Any music that predates the years listed below was created before generative AI music systems. Any music that predates the years listed below was created before generative AI music systems. Here we explain the timeline of AI music, and let you choose your cutoff year that whitelists any tracks before that year for you.
2020
Early experiments
A handful of AI-generated tracks began appearing on streaming platforms. The tools were primitive and mostly unworkable noise. Extremely rare.
2022
The first flood (recommended)
AI tools went mainstream. Generative music became passable enough to game streaming recommendation systems at scale. This was the takeoff of the problem that plagues us today.
2023
Current era
Near-convincing full songs began diluting the market, with hordes of profiles releasing hundreds of fully faked songs a day with near-zero input. Content farms scaled rapidly and it became notably difficult for artists to cut through the noise.

Why this matters

RealSongCheck and its users are making actionable change in music. Each track we block represents a stream that would have been eaten by an AI bot farm, but is now rightfully going to the royalty pool for millions of real people.

The more users join us, the bigger impact we can have for working musicians. Streaming platforms pay roughly $0.004 to $0.007 per stream. A single AI farm operating at modest volume (a thousand tracks getting a few hundred streams each per week) pulls in several hundred dollars a month. That money could and should be helping people.

We don't platform AI artist names or AI track names here. This page is to explain the scale of the problem and how easy it is to make a difference.

Estimated royalties redirected to human musicians
At minimum Spotify rate ($0.004/stream, as of 2024) $193
At average Spotify rate ($0.005/stream, as of 2024) $242
Assumption 1 removal = 1 stream redirected (conservative)
Note Real impact is higher. Removed tracks stop accumulating streams indefinitely

What we collect

Connecting your Spotify account gives us an encrypted OAuth token, which we store on our server. That token is what lets us read and manage your library on your behalf. We keep your scan results, removal history, and any settings you configure. We do not hold your Spotify username, email, or profile details unless you send them to us directly, for example when filing an appeal.

What we do with your data

Everything we store is used for one purpose: running RealSongCheck for you. That means scanning your library, removing tracks you have approved for removal, watching your playback, and keeping your history up to date. We do not sell this information, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything outside the service itself.

How long we hold it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you disconnect, we delete everything immediately: your token, your scan history, your removal logs, your blocked artist list, and your preferences. There is no grace period and no recovery once this happens.

How we use Spotify

We connect to Spotify through their official Web API using OAuth 2.0. The permissions we request are limited to what the service actually needs: reading your library, making changes to it, and checking playback state for the auto-skip feature. We will never post to your profile, access your payment details, or add anything to your library.

Security

Tokens are encrypted before storage. Every connection between your browser, our server, and Spotify goes over HTTPS. We do not retain raw API data from your library beyond what appears in your personal history log.

Your rights

You can delete all of your data at any time by using Disconnect and delete in Settings. If you have questions about what we hold, get in touch directly. Users in the EU and UK have rights under GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to see, correct, and erase your data.

Third parties

The only outside party that touches your data is Spotify AB, through their API. The only outside party that touches your data is Spotify AB, through their API. We do not run any analytics tools, advertising services, or other third-party processors.

Updates to this policy

If we make meaningful changes here, we will update the date at the top of this page. Carrying on using the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
