Terms of Service

BY USING THE SERVICE IN ANY FORM, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREED TO THESE TERMS, INCLUDING THE DISCLAIMERS, LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY, AND INDEMNIFICATION PROVISIONS BELOW.
RealSongCheck ("the Service," "we," "us," "our") is a music library management tool that helps users identify and block AI-generated music from their Spotify libraries. The Service is currently available in two forms:
RealSongCheck is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or approved by Spotify. It works by interacting with your Spotify session in ways that fall outside Spotify's official API. This is uncharted territory and we cannot guarantee Spotify will not change their technical or legal position on tools like ours in the future. We take on that uncertainty so you don't have to, but we cannot accept liability for any disruption to your Spotify account arising from your use of this service.
Specifically, the Service works as follows: when you open Spotify in the app or extension, a short-lived access token is captured from your active Spotify web player session. This token is generated by Spotify for your own browser session and belongs to your account. We intercept it, validate it, and store it in encrypted form on our servers solely to carry out the actions described in these Terms on your behalf. The token expires approximately every hour. The Service refreshes it automatically in the background when possible. You may occasionally be asked to reconnect if your session expires or you log out of Spotify.
We do not use Spotify's official OAuth API for this purpose. We do not ask you to grant OAuth permissions through a registered developer application. Your Spotify password is never transmitted to or stored by RealSongCheck.
The Service uses Spotify's internal web player endpoints rather than their publicly documented developer API. This is intentional. Spotify's official API imposes quota restrictions that would make a free public service impossible to operate. By using your own session token, no quota applies because the requests originate from your own authenticated session. This approach is technically the same as you performing these actions manually in your browser.
Your use of Spotify remains subject to Spotify's own Terms of Service at all times. We cannot advise on whether your use of RealSongCheck is consistent with Spotify's Terms of Service, as that is between you and Spotify.
THE SERVICE DOES NOT AND CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ANY ARTIST OR TRACK FLAGGED BY THE SERVICE IS AI-GENERATED, OR THAT ANY ARTIST OR TRACK NOT FLAGGED IS HUMAN-MADE.
All classifications produced by RealSongCheck are:
You acknowledge that the Service may block music created by human artists. You understand that any block applied to your Spotify account through the Service is reversible at any time by visiting the artist's Spotify page and unblocking them. All blocked artists can be unblocked from within Spotify.
By connecting your Spotify account to the Service, you explicitly authorise RealSongCheck to act on your behalf to block artists identified as distributing AI-generated music. You retain full responsibility for:
The Android app applies blocklist updates automatically in the background without requiring action from you each time. By connecting your account, you explicitly authorise these ongoing automated actions until you disconnect. You may disconnect at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data, which will stop any further automated actions. Blocks already applied to your Spotify account will remain in place unless you manually unblock those artists in Spotify.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice.
The blocklist is a database of Spotify artist IDs identified as distributing AI-generated music. It is maintained by RealSongCheck through a combination of community reports, automated detection, and manual review. We make no warranty as to its completeness, accuracy, or currency. The blocklist will never be exhaustive; new AI accounts are created faster than any service can track them.
Addition to or removal from the blocklist is at RealSongCheck's sole discretion. Artists or their representatives may submit appeals via the appeal form on our website. We review every appeal but are under no obligation to remove any artist from the blocklist.
RealSongCheck does not publish artists' names or any personal data from the blocklist publicly. The blocklist contains only Spotify artist IDs and is used exclusively to drive the blocking functionality within the Service.
RealSongCheck does not remove music from Spotify or any other platform. The Service only modifies your personal Spotify account settings by applying the artist-block feature that Spotify itself provides to all users. The Service does not:
Any action taken through the Service affects only your personal Spotify account. An artist, label, or distributor has no claim against RealSongCheck arising from a user's personal decision to block them on their own Spotify account, as this is a standard feature available to all Spotify users.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REALSONGCHECK EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
YOU ASSUME ALL RISK ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE AND ANY ACTIONS APPLIED TO YOUR SPOTIFY ACCOUNT AS A RESULT.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, REALSONGCHECK AND ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
IN NO EVENT SHALL REALSONGCHECK'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO REALSONGCHECK IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING (£100).
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless RealSongCheck and its owners, operators, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:
The Service is free to use. Donations are entirely voluntary and are accepted via Ko-fi at ko-fi.com/realsongcheck. All donations are final and non-refundable. Donations do not confer any additional rights, features, or guarantees. RealSongCheck is under no obligation to continue operating the Service regardless of whether donations are received.
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of your data as described there.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
You agree that any claim arising from your use of the Service must be brought within one (1) year of the event giving rise to the claim, or be permanently barred.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and RealSongCheck with respect to the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
